ON TOUR: BBTBTE 2006, Annexet, Stockholm, Sweden 1/2
Very soon after the summer 2006 festival shows, Lordi started their Bringing Back The Balls To Europe 2006 tour, their biggest and longest headlining one yet, and I was so lucky and privileged to once again hop on the bus with them. More than 6 weeks all across Europe selling merchandise, taking photos and reporting to the fans straight from the road. The previous year’s European Monstour 2005 was quite modest and simple compared to this tour. On that tour, we were all crammed into one double-decker nightliner hauling a small trailer with all the equipment in it. On this one though, now there were two buses and a truck with a semi-trailer in the convoy. The venues were bigger, the crowds were bigger and of course, after winning the Eurovision, the band was bigger. Everything was bigger and everyone was super excited to hit the road!
The opening night of the tour was in Stockholm, Sweden at Annexet on September 16th. This was the first time all the new castle-themed stage set pieces, props, effects and other stuff were in use. Kita’s jukebox, the levitating cheerleader-zombie Maikku, the staircase with the bell and clock towers… the whole frickin’ deal. The stage looked so good and massive! The first part of this throwback gallery is in fact mostly about the new stage set and building and setting it up. Join next week for the gig photos and the monsters themselves!
Fun fact: the opening act on this Swedish leg of the tour was a fairly unknown and upcoming band called Sabaton…
