ON LOCATION: February 7th 2008, Lordi’s Rocktaurant
Alrite, monstermaniacs! Time to get back to blogging and the throwback galleries! Let me start this off by saying that Lordi’s Rocktaurant was a fucking cool and truly unique place. On February 7th 2008, the following day of the Dark Floors movie world premiere, Mr. Lordi picked me, Hemitys and WrathChild up from Oulu and drove us to visit his hometown of Rovaniemi. He showed us around the city and of course we went to Lordi’s Rocktaurant for dinner and shoot the shit. The best Rovaniemi tour guide ever, right!?
Lordi’s Rocktaurant was a theme restaurant with a great menu and tons of really cool things up on display; not only old costumes, set pieces and props, but also some of Mr. Lordi’s paintings, designs, other artwork and various horror movie memorabilia. And borrowing from the good old Hard Rock Cafe style, many other bands, artist and celebrities had gifted and donated their stuff to be hung on the walls. There were even a few photos from the early days taken by me, such as the ones in the display case with the original Biomechanic Man mask and Amen’s first face design (last photo in the gallery below).
Lordi’s Rocktaurant first opened in December of 2006 in wake of the Eurovision craze, but after struggling with the declining customer numbers and the lease contract coming to an end, sadly closed it’s doors for good in 2011. Here’s my photos from our visit there. I’ve never posted any of these before and there isn’t too much of documentation from inside the restaurant anywhere, so this is kinda special content. And as a fun side note, the downstairs bar area was called, of course, MonsterDiscoHell.
