ON SET: September 22nd 2007, Dark Floors, Awa
Lordi spent most of the summer and the fall of 2007 playing festivals in Europe and doing two big tours in the United States, The Ozzfest tour and the Type O Negative Halloween tour. And when they were not on the road, they were filming the long-awaited, upcoming feature-length movie, Dark Floors - The Lordi Motion Picture. The other monsters’ scenes were filmed on a sound stage and the hospital set in Oulu so I didn’t have a chance to visit there, but on September 22nd, when they filmed Awa’s scenes in a studio in front of a green screen in Helsinki, Mr. Lordi called me up and invited me to be there to take some exclusive behind-the-scenes photos for MDH.
Awa’s character had changed quite a lot since I last saw her. It wasn’t a total makeover, more like an Awa version 1.5. She was still rocking the old The Arockalypse-era dress, but now she had a new meaner-looking, more horror inspired face, a thicker raven black hair, proper hands with long black fingernails and some tattered rags dangling from her sleeves. People ask me a lot what’s my all time favorite Awa costume and this is it, from the second I saw her. They nailed it for Dark Floors.
Here’s my gallery from the set. There’s so many of my all time favorites here. All the close-ups of her expressions and different poses, the ones with the clapperboard, her wearing the green socks and taking a break sitting in a wheelchair.
